After a long week of school, it was so nice to read, relax by the beach and hang out with friends. Jason and I took a drive to Chatham, MA and checked out the beach. The water was gorgeous, warm and perfect for swimming.

We headed back to our friend Adam’s house in Harwichport to get ready for happy hour at the Improper Bostonian. It’s come to be a Shameapalooza tradition over the last few years. Jimmy Plunkett plays to the crowd of 20-, 30- and 40-somethings for a few hours. We had a few drinks and danced our butts off! Here’s Kathleen, Jason and Jesse.

After the Improper, we came back to the house and started dinner. There were about 20 people at Adam’s house so we kept dinner simple with grilled cheeseburgers, hot dogs, kielbasa, chicken sausage, and steak tips. I made a friend’s recipe for Tahoe Sauce; which is ground beef, onions, garlic, tomato paste and lots of spices (cumin, chili powder, cayenne, cinnamon, and cloves) – it’s a great topper for hot dogs and burgers. I also made corn on the cob rubbed with butter, salt and chili powder and salad of grilled corn, black beans, cherry tomatoes, and red onion. The salad had a vinaigrette made with lime, olive oil, salt, pepper and cayenne. I make this salad a lot but typically make it with avocado (instead of corn), however the grocery store was out of avocado so I had to improvise. Everything was delicious. Our friend Christina made homemade ice cream sandwiches with chocolate chip cookies – a perfect end to dinner!
